Scope

What we check

  • Global scan of every control module and stored fault code
  • Freeze-frame and environmental data at the time of the fault
  • Live data compared against known-good values
  • Wiring, ground and supply integrity to the suspect circuit

BMW 335i

Intermittent loss of power

Symptom
Sudden loss of boost under load, roughly once a week. No warning light most of the time.
Testing
Logged boost pressure, wastegate duty and intake temperature over a 40-minute road test with the fault provoked under sustained load.
Cause identified
A hairline split in the charge-air pipe that only opened above a certain pressure and temperature.
Solution
Charge-air pipe replaced, boost system pressure-tested, adaptations reset. Re-tested over the same route. No recurrence.

Questions

Is this the same as a code read?

No. A code read tells you which module logged a fault. A diagnostic tests the circuit to find out why it did.

How long does it take?

Most diagnostics take between one and three hours. Intermittent faults can take longer, and we will tell you before continuing.

Do I pay for the diagnostic if you then do the repair?

The diagnostic is charged separately, because the testing is the work. Repair costs are quoted afterwards.
